So this past week has had its up and downs. I stayed home all day Monday through Wednesday, enjoying the last few days with my brother before he started kindergarten. Then Thursday, I went with him to be the surrogate mother, my mom had work (she's a school teacher) and it was so sad! I was not expecting to cry and was doing fine while they talked to all the parents in the classrooms. Then it came time to tell him goodbye. I was holding it together, even though my heart was breaking, until he said, "Bye Ashley. Go away, so I can learn." I barely made it out of the school before I was sobbing. I missed him all day, missed the TV blaring Cartoon network in the background, the toys scattered all across the floor. But then he came home and told me what a wonderful day he had, and then I was okay.
Friday, I had a quiet day at home, and that evening my entire family went out to eat to celebrate the first week of school. Of course, only four of them had gone back to school, while three of us (my older stepsister, me, and my younger stepsister) don't start classes until the 23rd. Then we went home and had a nice bonfire, while I was eaten alive by mosquitos.
On Saturday, I had gotten up early to go cheer on my little cousin in his first 5K. He is only six, and loves to run! He ran the 5K in 31 minutes, but would have been faster if he hadn't been scared of crossing the road. They had blocked it off, with firetrucks and police officers. A cop was telling him it was okay to cross and he said he couldn't because his mom wasn't there! After he crossed the finish line, he drank half a bottle of gatorade and went to play on the playground, while the teenagers were dying and out of breath. After the awards (where he placed second in his age category 9 and under) he asked if he could run it again!
We didn't do much the rest of the day, just went back home and hung out. Then yesterday, my mom, stepdad, and I drove to Berea (where my stepsister goes to college) and helped her move in. It was crazy! We got there and ate lunch (which was delicious but we regretted it later), but it took almost an hour to get our food! Then again we were in prime after church lunch traffic. Then we all drove over to her dorm, and she wasn't sure if she was supposed to even be there. Finally we got it all sorted out, she was supposed to be there, and started bringing in her stuff Looking at how much she brought, it made me look like an over-packer when I go back to school! But then again she was in a small single room, and forgot several things at her house. Because her school is only about an hour or so from mine, we are taking some of her forgotten stuff down to her when I move in next Sunday.
Speaking of which, I better go. I have several things to do today to prepare for the move-in next week. I hope you all have a fabulous week! This past week was crazy! On the 1st, Falon (my roommate) moved into our dorm. I drove down and helped her, and came to find out that we didn't not get the room we were supposed to. My roommate is an RA and in the hall we were assigned to the RA's are supposed to have the bigger room in our suite. We instead got one of the smallest rooms (due to technical difficulties last semester), so We had to come up with some new ideas to fix the room. I wasn't able to get a picture of the room before hand, but once we get it fixed and decorated I post a picture of it.
The rest of the week flew by with little incident. Then Saturday rolled around. My sister and I were supposed to go see Pentatonix at the Ohio State Fair. Our mom drove us, so she could drive us home after (my family doesn't like me to drive late at night and I'm not old enough to check into a hotel). We first stopped by Ikea, so I could find this desk storage I wanted. It was my first time being in Ikea, along with my sister's and my mom's, and we loved it! It was a little crowded, but the prices were good and it was so neat seeing everything! I also picked up a light-up mirror, and my mom picked up a couple things she wanted. So we head to the self-service area where you pick up the boxes with the big pieces of furniture, to find out they were out of my desk storage I wanted.
After Ikea, we went to go eat at Cheesecake Factory. It was fantastic, but we spent more money than I thought three people could at a place like that. After that we went to the fair to find our seats for the concerts. The opening act , Us the Duo, was late to the stage by thirty minutes, and after their spectacular performance, PTX was late to the stage by 45 minutes. Other than the long wait, me and my sister had a great time!
That was my crazy week, and if you have any suggestions or ideas of what you would like to see please leave them in the comments below. First a quick update on this week. I finished my last week of work, and traveled the eight hours back home to beautiful Kentucky. It has been a pretty easy weekend so far, and on Tuesday I help my roommate move back into college. Then I have three weeks of nothing until I go back to college.
Okay, so since last weeks post was short, and this weeks post would have been short if I had just left it at the first paragraph, I'm going to give a quick anecdote from my childhood.
It was the summer of 2009, and I was 11 years old. My sister was turning 9 and for her birthday she wanted to go fishing. My uncle had a boat, and we always camped her birthday week. So he took us out in it to fish. I don't really enjoy fishing (I don't have the patience) but I was excited for her. Also with us in the boat was my aunt and my mother.
So we are out on the lake with the fishing lines out, waiting for a tug on the poles, talking and having a good time. Then my aunt sees something out on the water that was heading for my sister. She was trying to tell her to move over to where my uncle was, without scaring her or my mother. Next thing I know I'm in my mother's lap with my mom screaming. It was a snake that was coming towards us. A thing to note is my mother is very terrified of snakes.
My uncle is attacking the thing, as it's climbing into the boat, with his fishing pole and hook. I can remember him poking holes in it, it was bleeding, but never killing it. My aunt had my sister, and my mom was trying to take me into the water. Her scrambling was rocking the boat and at one point almost tipping us into the water. My aunt pulled on her and lugged her to the other side of the small boat. This rocked it even more and we almost tipped the other way. Finally, the snake got scared off and swam away. We immediately went back to the docks and left. After that incident my uncle didn't take his boat back out and eventually sold it.
I haven't been fishing since. But it has always been a funny story to share with others. About how I almost ended up in a lake because my mom was terrified of snakes. Anyway, this has been the blog this week. If you enjoyed it, let me know in the comments below and let me know what you would like to see next week or in the weeks to come. Share this blog with others, if you want, and don't forget to follow me on social media! Thanks and see you all next week!
It has been a while since I last left a blog post on here. I have just been super busy with life and got discouraged, but I want to write these posts for myself to have to look back on. Anyways, nothing new has changed. I finished my freshman year of college, with a okay GPA. I also have completed a summer's worth of work at my dad's work place, making pretty good money, to put towards the London study abroad trip. I start sophomore year in August, and can't wait. I'll leave a picture of our finished dorm room on here after we get it fixed up.
Also I have changed on how much I'm going to post on here. To help make it a habit, I'm going to post once a week on here (not sure how much I was posting before). Again if you have any ideas on what you, the reader, wants to see please leave them in the comments below. If you are bored please fill out the survey on the home page, so I can get more of an idea on who is reading this. Thanks!
This week has been a stressful week. It's the week before dead week in classes, also the week after break, and I served at our college's annual madrigal dinners.
I have never been a server or a waitress before, but I now have a new appreciation for them. The first night was crazy. It was hectic and I wasn't given good instructions; however, I did very well in tips considering it was my first time ever doing that sort of thing.
The second night was a little better. I now had a better understanding of what to do, and I got two adorable kids at my table! Then finally, the last night arrives.
My dad came down to see the show and to help me out with tips. But I didn't only have him. Oh no, I had a big happy family as well. I'm fine with dealing with families because I love kids, but their father and grandfather are, what we (the servers) call pushers. They are very needy and push things on to you.
See at a madrigal, at least ours, we are only allowed to do things at certain times. Like clear dishes or refill drinks. If we don't do things in a certain order, then we get yelled at by the lady in charge.
So at the beginning of the night, I'm getting their drinks, and the grandfather and grandmother push their coffee cups at me. I'm not supposed to take them, but they literally put them in my arms as I was walking away. So I drop them off and am trying to get ice out of one of the cups for the father. However, all of the ice is frozen in all of our cups. I try and explain that to him, but instead of saying that's ok, he is very adamant about not having ice in his Pepsi.
They kept getting progressively pushier as the night goes on, but finally after they get dinner, my father reveals to them that I'm his daughter. And it was like a light bulb went off. They turned from people that were making me nervous and pull my hair out to some of the sweetest people I've ever seen.
Once the night is over with, I go back to the table to clean it off and collect my tip. And I was astonished by how much they had tipped me.
Anyways, I just have learned a lesson here. Be nice to your waiters cause you never know what they might be dealing with at another table.
So finals week is next week and Christmas is coming up soon, I'm going to leave a funny picture to help cheer up anyone's week/day. And please, leave a comment letting me know what kind of content you would like to see. Thanks for reading, and see y'all next week!!
Thanksgiving should be about enjoying time with family, giving thanks for all that you have, and usually spent at one or two houses. That's not how my Thanksgiving went. I spent the first half of the week at my mom's house, 4 hours north form my school. Then on Wednesday I had to travel the 4 hours back south, then hop into my grandparents car and travel 4 more hours south to Alabama.
Then today, Sunday, I had to travel 4 hours back north, another 2 hours to drop my sister off to my mother, and finally another two hours back to my school. But it has been a day. However I unpacked and put up my Christmas tree in my dorm room, and I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I'll post a picture of it at the end.
So besides traveling this week has been more of a chilled week. Oh! An couple of interesting things have happened. I saw Moana, the new Disney movie, at a drive-in! Yes they still exist and it was fantastic!! The movie itself was very good, and just seeing it at a drive-in made it a million times better. The other interesting thing was this guy that I had done a production of A Christmas Carol with last year, Facebook messaged me and now we are texting each other constantly. Maybe things will go further, but maybe not. Who knows, you just have to take some chances sometimes. I want it to go further, but we will see.
Anyways, hope y'all have had plenty to eat and enjoyed Thanksgiving with your loved ones. Please share this blog with anyone you think will enjoy it, but if you want to give me advice or a comment on what you would like to see, please leave it below (in the comments) or on a form on the home page. Happy Holidays, and I will see y'all next week!!
This is the first blog. I'm going to try and either write a blog every Saturday or Sunday, but please be patient, cause college.
Anyways, just a little about myself and what I've did this week. I was born in Texas, but raised in northeast Kentucky. Now my hometown is small, and very, very rednecked. I hated high school, I was the smart kid who nobody liked except a select few nerds, theatre people, and music geeks. So, my senior year I received my golden ticket out of this town; a full-ride to a private school in southeast Kentucky. I said goodbye to my family, and went to school in August. Should be different right? Not really, sure I've made friends and am doing well, however the school is its own little bubble. But in this bubble my friends and I do stupid stuff, and laugh daily.
This week is a prime example. On Monday, one of my friends has a crush on this boy. This boy invited her out to ice cream, but she didn't take the hint and said no. Then he invited her to his dorm (goes to a different school) to a dinner fixed by him, she said yes but is taking my other two friends with her. She is very naive, but I love her anyways. That's really not that funny, but at the time it was. Oh well!
This week was actually a pretty chill week. I mean I could describe last weekend, but that's stories for later. I went home early (we don't get out for Thanksgiving break until Wednesday, but I'm skipping Monday and Tuesday), so it was more of a packing and getting ready to leave week for me.
Anyways, hope you keeping reading! Leave a comment below or on the home page, tell me what you would like to read or know more about!
Happy Thanksgiving! See you next Saturday!!
I will try to post a blog every week, if not every other day. It depends on what happens during the week/day, but I will post every week. It just that some weeks may seem boring, which is where I will blog about the week and then will provide an anecdote from my childhood. That's besides the point, I hope you enjoy reading!
